ASK THE COACH:
Newsletter from AYSO

Question:
"The parents on the team I coach complain about the referee all the time. Should I be concerned or is that just part of sports?"
Answer: The ref criticism must stop. There is no upside to diverting the children's focus from playing the game to an "injustice" by the referee. There is, however, a good case to be made for allowing children to deal with a referee's decision without their parents' interference.
Most of the sideline ref criticism is unfounded and refs' errors in youth soccer are generally insignificant. But even if a call is unfair, it's better for the players' long-term development if the adults allow them to cope on their own. Complaining about the officiating within earshot of young players teaches them to blame others when things don't go their way.

Team Websites are available.
Coaches interested in managing team websites can sign up now; use the team links.  Please email webmaster@ayso708.org with any questions.  D4 is charging $20 per team for team sites this year.

Our official registrations are now over.  Players still interested in this season, please use our Waiting List.  We will add players to our existing team where we have openings based on first if child's parent is willing to fill one of our open coaching slots, and next on a first come first serve basis.   If you are willing to fill one our open coaching slots that we may have in our  U6 division, we will place your child for the 2009-2010 Fall/Spring Season.  All other children we can not guarantee placement.    If you are willing to coach – add your child to our wait list and send us a note to coachadmin@ayso708.org

MISSION

The AYSO Mission is to develop and deliver a quality soccer program where everyone builds positive character through participation in a fun, fair, safe, family environment based on the AYSO philosophies:

Everyone Plays – Our goal is for kids to play soccer – so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least half of every game.

Balanced Teams – At the start of each season, we form teams as evenly balanced as possible, because it is more fun when teams of equal ability play.

Positive Coaching – Kids win when they are built up, not torn down! We train and encourage our coaches to make the extra effort to understand and offer positive help to our players, rather than negative criticism.

Open Registration – Our program is open to all children between 4 and 18 years of age who want to register and play soccer in our program. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing.

Good Sportsmanship – We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect, rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.

Player Development – We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.
